Science Experiments You Can Eat!

We found this book at the thrift store for $0.50!  So far we've made Strawberry Bombay, Custard and today's experiment, making butter!  Next time we'll take the butter and turn it into ghee.  Much to learn regarding how fats work, the health benefits of and so on...

An Ancient's Feast!

To close out this trimesters Social Science assignment on the study of Ancient cultures, Greece, Egypt and Rome, we decided to make a feast for the ancients.  We all love to eat and this is a great, fun way for us to learn about these ancient cultures.

Since our family is on the GAPS diet: http://www.gapsdiet.com/, which allows no grain or sugar, these recipes actually work well for the most part, we have made a few modifications to accommodate our diet.

Ancient Feast
===========----------------------------=====----Appetizer----=====------------------------------==========
Kefethes - Greek Lamb Meatballs with an eggy milky texture/flavor (see original recipe here: http://greekfood.about.com/od/meatappetizersmezethes/r/BakedKeftethes.htm , we substituted lamb meat, coconut milk, almond meal for the bread crumbs and omitted the cheese)

===========----------------------------====---Soup and Salad---====------------------------------==========
Greek Bean Soup - a white sweet bean soup with beef broth and onions (see original recipe here: http://www.greek-recipe.com/ancient-bean-soup/)

Egyptian Fruit Salad - A fruit salad with melon, dates, coconut, figs, apples and pomegranates.

===========----------------------------=====----Main Course----=====------------------------------==========
Steak w/ mint - title says it all

Roman Green Bean Vegetable Blend - A salty green bean dish with
coriander, leeks, and cumin seeds (see original recipe here: http://www.tribunesandtriumphs.org/roman-life/green-beans.htm)

===========----------------------------=====----Dessert----=====------------------------------==========
Egyptian Date Candy - A date candy with cinnamon, nuts, and seeds. (see original recipe here: http://www.food.com/recipe/ancient-egyptian-date-candy-for-2-people-229292)

Roman Peach Starter - A peach dish with grape juice, dried mint,
and a little coconut texture (see original recipe here: http://www.tribunesandtriumphs.org/roman-life/apricot-starter.htm , neither nectarines nor apricots were in season so we opted for frozen peaches).

-=Mythos Academy=-

This is the first blog post for Mythos Academy.  We are a normal school in a home environment which adds the function of learning ancient and Japanese culture.

A normal day may include tending our garden, Botany, Computer Science at the Teen Center, Math, Spelling.. (boring) or more fun stuff like learning how to draw Japanese anime.  Cooking and conducting science experiments with food is some of our favorite ways to learn.

Please enjoy our blog!
